Longboard Skateboard
A longboard skateboard is very similar to a regular skateboard
in construction and materials, but they are much larger and ride very
differently. A longboard can be as long as four or more feet with the
most popular size averaging right around 36 inches. They are flat, unlike
short boards which have turned up tails for jumping, although some models
have integrated a turned up tail for turning maneuvers.
A longboard skateboard is designed for traveling fast. They are right
at home on smooth mountain roads and college campuses. They are excellent
sources of transportation, a longboard will get a skater around much
faster than a short board, and they are also incredibly fun to ride.
The ride is very similar to riding a wave in the ocean. These are the
true sidewalk surfers, an early term used to describe skateboarding.
Carving and sliding turns are easy on a longboard skateboard. The trucks
are wider than a regular skateboard making them more stable especially
when turning. The wheels on a longboard are also much larger and softer.
A soft wheel grips the ground better, allowing for tight carves and
consistent slides while the larger diameter of the wheel allows them
to roll faster, especially once brought up to speed. Learning to foot
brake is one of the most important skills that a longboarder can learn.
