Skateboarding
Skateboarding is much more than just a sport or a form
of transportation. It has embraced the counter-culture of misfits, rule
breakers, and anarchists and has blended them together seamlessly without
compromising their original beliefs. It is partially this devil may
care attitude that has attracted so many people to the sport, or, lifestyle.
Skateboarding is a very young sport as well. It is still evolving greatly
in style, tricks and technology. There is no definition of a skater
that can be applied to more than one individual. Each person finds the
board they like and the style that suits them. “If it isn’t
fun don’t do” being one of their mottos. It has even begun
developing its own fashion sense apart from the music that it used to
be identified with, punk.
Skateboarding is changing everyday. Longboards have had a recent surge
in popularity, especially in places that are not traditionally known
for having very many skaters. All of a sudden mountainous areas have
just as many skaters as areas by the beach or with many skate parks.
There are new designs being developed and tested on a regular basis
making skating more fun, faster safer and easier.
